The Brisbane Tigers bounced back in style in Round 13 of the Hostplus Cup, overpowering the Northern Pride 38–10 at Totally Workwear Stadium on Saturday.
It was a dominant second-half performance from the home side, who ran in five unanswered tries after the break to secure the convincing win.
The Tigers opened the scoring early through Josh Smith, who capitalised on a break from Ryley Jacks to cross in the fifth minute. Despite the fast start, the Pride responded well with tries to Seamus King-Smith and Dane Aukafolau, taking a 10–6 lead midway through the first half.
The momentum shifted again as Asher O’Donnell sliced through the line for a try in the 25th minute, followed by a penalty goal to Keagan Russell-Smith that gave the Tigers a narrow 12–10 halftime lead.
The second half was all Brisbane.
Mitchell Spencer struck just four minutes after the break, setting the tone with a strong linebreak and finish. Tries to Tahj Wood, Jodeci Baker, Kane Bradley (twice), and Tony Thompson followed, as the Tigers dominated possession and punished the Pride’s errors.
Pride winger Isaac Lumelume was sin-binned in the 52nd minute for a dangerous tackle, and Brisbane capitalised immediately with Wood and Baker scoring back-to-back tries to extend the margin.
The Tigers’ defence held strong throughout the half, forcing repeat errors from the visitors and preventing any second-half points.
Kane Bradley’s second try in the 80th minute sealed the emphatic win, highlighting Brisbane’s ruthless edge in the closing stages.
