The Brisbane Tigers have opened their 2025 BMD Premiership campaign in style, claiming a 26–16 victory over the Northern Pride at Totally Workwear Stadium.

In a spirited Round 1 clash, the Tigers overcame an early deficit and a string of second-half penalties to grind out the win, setting a positive tone for the season ahead.

Winger Namoe Gesa opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but the Pride answered with tries to Kimberley Hunt and Sian Williams, taking a 10–4 lead midway through the first half. The Tigers regained momentum with back-to-back tries to Aleksandra Tunufai and Gesa again, before Porche John broke through to give Brisbane an 18–10 halftime advantage.

The Pride closed the gap in the second half via Jenni-Sue Hoepper, but the Tigers held firm, finishing the stronger of the two sides. Tahlia Marshall crossed in the 49th minute before Kelsey Parkin sealed the result with a late try in the 64th.

The Tigers impressed with their resilience, game management and attacking firepower. Their ability to stay composed under pressure and finish strongly highlights the depth and determination in this 2025 squad — a promising sign for what’s to come this season.

The Tigers are back at Totally Workwear Stadium again this weekend for their clash against the Mackay Cutters!
