The Brisbane Tigers are thrilled to confirm that Leon Savelio will return as Head Coach of our Harvey Norman U17s side for the 2027 season.

Leon brings a decade of experience in women’s and girls’ rugby league to the role, having coached female players across community, representative and pathways levels since 2016. Alongside his U17s duties, Leon will continue as an Assistant Coach with our Harvey Norman U19s and BMD Premiership sides.

Leon’s coaching journey began in 2016 at Aspley Devils, where he coached the U15, U17 and Open Women’s teams through to 2022. During that time he also took on representative duties with QLD Samoa from 2021 to 2024, coaching the U14, U16 and Open Women’s sides.

In 2022, Leon moved into the pathways space with the North Devils Harvey Norman U19 Female program, serving as Assistant Coach in 2023 before stepping up to Head Coach in 2024.

Leon joined the Tigers in 2025 as an Assistant Coach for our BMD Women’s side, before taking the reins of the Harvey Norman U17s in 2026.

Leon has been part of premiership-winning sides at almost every level he’s coached. His honours include:

  • Aspley Devils premierships (2017, 2020)
  • QLD Samoa QPICC titles (2022, 2023, 2024)
  • Brisbane Tigers BMD Premiership (2025)
  • Brisbane Tigers Harvey Norman U19s premiership (2026)

Building on 2026

Leon says the 2026 season laid the groundwork for what’s ahead.

“In 2026 we built strong foundations as a playing group, and heading into 2027 our goal is to continue developing the girls both individually and as a team. I hope to keep building on what we started and see how far we can take it together,” Leon said.

“My coaching philosophy is based around creating a positive, supportive environment where players enjoy their footy, work hard and have the confidence to keep improving.”

The Brisbane Tigers are delighted to have Leon back leading the Harvey Norman U17s and look forward to another exciting season of development for our young players.
