The Brisbane Tigers can confirm that Head Coach James Lenihan will depart the club following this
weekend’s Round 9 clash after accepting an opportunity to return to full-time professional coaching
in the Super League.
While James’ departure represents a significant loss for the Brisbane Tigers, the club understands
and supports his decision to pursue an opportunity he believes he cannot turn down.
Since joining the Tigers, Lenihan has made a strong impact both on and off the field, helping drive
high performance standards, player development, and a strong connection within the club
environment. His leadership and coaching of the Tigers program have earned the respect of players,
staff, members, sponsors, and the broader rugby league community.
Brisbane Tigers CEO Mitch Cook acknowledged the contribution James has made during his tenure at
the club:
“Jimmy has been an outstanding leader for our club and this opportunity is a testament to the quality
coach and person he is. While we are naturally disappointed to lose him, we fully support his decision
to return to full-time professional coaching in the Super League. Jim has made a significant
contribution to the Brisbane Tigers and we thank him for everything he has given to the club.”
— Mitch Cook, CEO, Brisbane Tigers
Lenihan expressed his sincere gratitude to the Brisbane Tigers for the support and opportunity
provided during his time at the club.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the Brisbane Tigers for the opportunity and support I’ve received
throughout my time here. This club has a proud history and an outstanding group of people who
genuinely care about each other and the success of the organisation.
While I’m excited by the opportunity ahead, I do leave with a sense of unfinished business. I’ve
thoroughly enjoyed working with our players, staff, members, sponsors, and the wider Tigers
community, and I’ll always be appreciative of the relationships and experiences I’ve had here.”
— James Lenihan
The club will provide an update on the coaching structure moving forward in due course.
The Brisbane Tigers thank James Lenihan for his service and wish him every success in the next
chapter of his coaching career
