The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers are pleased to announce the signing of Jillaroo and Queensland Maroon Shannon Mato, for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
The 25-year-old prop-forward returns to Langlands Park, after first playing for the Club as a 19 year-old in 2017.
Mato has gone on to play 22 NRLW games for the Broncos and the Titans, 5 games for the Maroons and 4 games for the Jillaroos.
Mato will bring experience and go-forward to the Tigers pack.
Mato will play for the Tigers in the QRL’s BMD Premiership competition, before returning to the Gold Coast Titans to prepare for the NRL Telstra Women’s Premiership.
Mato said “I’m back to where it all started”.
Something I probably learnt from last night’s session was the team attributes, and something that resonated with me is ‘nobody is bigger than the team’ and always ‘helping a sister out’.
I guess for me, it’s having as much fun back at a familiar environment and getting to know the girls and building culture, Mato added.
Tigers Head Co-Coach Paul Nieuwenhuyzen said ” I have already had players message me this morning after last night’s training session in relation to the difference in how Shannon trains, leads by example, supports and encourages her teammates. We are extremely grateful and excited to have Shannon joining us.”
The Tigers kick-off their 2024 BMD Premiership campaign against the Sunshine Coast Falcons on Saturday 10 March, at Totally Workwear Stadium. Kick-off is at 12:05pm.
