The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers will travel west to Toowoomba for their Hostplus Cup clash against the Western Clydesdales, and south to Tweed Heads for their Hastings Deering Colts match against the Tweed Seagulls this Saturday.

Round 12: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Tweed Seagulls

Our first-placed Colts take on the high-flying Tweed Seagulls away at Piggabeen Sports Complex, looking to extend their winning streak to three-straight away from home after wins against Ipswich and Northern Pride.
This is the first time they have stared each other down since last year’s finals series, when the Seagulls came away 28 to 24 winners and progressed through to week two.
The Seagulls are coming into this game off the back of a 50 to 0 shutout of the Devils. Our Tigers are also coming with good form, having beaten the Pride 48 to 12 and were dominant in every aspect.
The competition-leading Suzuki Brisbane Tigers scored nine tries on the back of 59 per cent of the ball, 11 line breaks and 56 tackle breaks.
Prop Casey Morgan was outstanding, making ground through the middle with 188 run metres. Fullback Lachlan West scored one try and made two line breaks. West now leads the Colts with 12 tries from 11 games.
Five-eighth Bailey Black has also been a point-scoring machine, notching up 100 points so far this season and the leading points scorer.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Premiership coach Mark Gliddon:
“It is a tough trip to go up to Cairns and play the Northern Pride. It was pouring down with rain and those conditions probably did not suit us on the day, but we defended really well.
We let two tries in, and one of them was off a kick, so I was really pleased with our defensive efforts.
It was probably Madison Beckett’s best performance of the year. He is starting to play some really good footy.
He was our player of the year last year and he has sort of had a bit of a slow start to the year due to a few injury concerns, but I thought he was really good on the weekend and he carried really well.
We are at Piggabeen this weekend against Tweed, who are very hard to beat down there. It is probably the toughest road trip in the competition.
They got us there last year in a semifinal in the last 30 seconds of the game. It was a bit disappointing, but we are looking forward to the challenge.
They are a good side and their coach has coached 116 Queensland Cup games. So I think it is pretty important that we complete our sets and we play a bit of field position, and we get into a grind.
They are not a flashy team, they are real grindy team. So if we can get into an arm wrestle and hopefully come out of the other side of the wrestle by completing our sets, it will go a long way towards getting the required result.”

Hostplus Cup
Round 17: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Western Clydesdales

Location: Clive Berghofer Stadium, Toowoomba
The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers will be hoping for another strong away performance this weekend in Toowoomba against the Western Clydesdales as they look to cement their position at the top end of the Hostplus Cup ladder.
The Clydesdales have lost their last eight games, their worst ever losing run being nine straight in 1998, and our Tigers have won the last two games between these two sides in Toowoomba.
Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ hooker Tristan Hope will play his 50th Queensland Cup game this weekend, notching up the milestone across games with Redcliffe, Wynnum Manly and our Tigers.

“It is always tough to travel to Cairns. You have a short turn around by the time you get off the plane, have a meal, check into the hotel and to get to the ground.
The really pleasing aspect was we played as a team. We have had some challenges through the year with guys in and out but, as a collective, it is the most we have been on the same page. It was really impressive.
Indigenous Round always means a lot. You do not have to identify as indigenous for it to mean a lot. Corey Thompson pulled out at the last minute, so Nat McGavin got his opportunity.
When I rang him, he was so excited to play in Indigenous Round. It is always a happy conversation as a coach when you get to put a smile on someone’s face, and he was all attitude and energy.
I spoke about the jersey and what it meant, and the meaning and the story behind the jersey, prior to the game and then we let our indigenous players lead us out. So it was a really good occasion.
Toowoomba have had a really resilient season. They probably have not got the results they would have liked but they are certainly not a team that goes away.
They like to play a bit of a power game similar to the Northern Pride last week, so we definitely have to match them physically through the middle of the field.
