The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers will officially add an additional Women’s team in 2022 when they enter a team in the Harvey Norman Under 19’s competition.
The Tigers, having been apart of the open women’s pathways since 2017 will open a new representative pathway for women in Brisbane and in particular the Southside.
The Harvey Norman Under 19 women’s competition was first established in the 2021 season and featured the following teams; Burleigh Bears, Townsville Blackhawks, Wide Bay Bulls, Central Qld Capras, Mackay Cutters, Sunshine Coast Falcons, Ipswich Diggers, Souths Logan Magpies, Western Mustangs, West Brisbane Panthers, Northern Pride and Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
The competition acts a strong development system for female players in Queensland which supports the Women’s National Championships, U19’s Women’s State of Origin and NRLW.
This year’s competition ran from March to April, however the dates regarding the 2022 season is yet to be announced.
Having been involved in the 2021 Tigers BHP Premiership coaching staff as Assistant Coach, Paul Nieuwenhuyzen has been appointed as Head Coach of the Tigers inaugural Harvey Norman Under 19’s team.
The Tigers will begin putting together the coaching staff and playing roster in the coming weeks, with trials to be announced shortly.
