Round 12 – Hostplus Cup | Sunday, June 8, 2025 | Totally Workwear Stadium

The Brisbane Tigers showcased moments of attacking flair but were ultimately overpowered by a relentless Norths Devils side, falling 42-26 in a high-scoring Round 12 contest at Totally Workwear Stadium.

The Devils opened the scoring early with Peter Hola crossing the line, setting the tone for a dynamic first half. The Tigers responded with determination; Joe Stimson powered through the defense to score, and Jackson Chang followed up with a try after a decisive line break, giving the Tigers a promising lead.

However, the Devils regained momentum before halftime. A strategic kick from Sean O’Sullivan set up Manase Kaho for a try, followed by additional scores from Jordan Lipp and O’Sullivan himself, turning the tide in favor of the visitors. The Tigers faced further challenges as forward Tom Rafter was temporarily sidelined due to a Head Injury Assessment (HIA) but made a return in the second half.

The Devils continued their offensive onslaught early in the second half, with Jordan Lipp securing his second try. Two more tries followed before the end of the game, putting the Tigers on the back foot.

Refusing to relent, the Tigers showcased resilience. A line break from Jodeci Baker set up Josh Smith for a try, narrowing the deficit. Again, the Josh Smith Jodeci Duo pressed forward, with Josh Smith catching a dropped ball from the Devils making a line break 60 meters up the field, which set Jodeci up for a try in the right hand corner. Despite their efforts, the Devils maintained control, responding with additional tries that kept the Tigers at bay. Late in the match, Sylvester Namo and Tom Rafter were placed on report for a dangerous tackle, adding to the Tigers’ woes.

While the Tigers demonstrated attacking prowess, defensive lapses proved costly against a formidable Devils side. The team will aim to regroup as they prepare to host the Northern Pride at Totally Workwear Stadium on Saturday, June 14. The upcoming fixture also marks the commencement of the BMD Premiership, promising an exciting weekend of rugby league action.
