Introducing your newest Queensland Maroons representative, Mikeal Ibrahim.

The teenager who plays lock has been selected in the Queensland U18 Emerging Squad, which is holding a camp this weekend.

Mikeal says being a Brisbane Tigers player means a lot.

“I played as an Easts junior when I was ten-years-old, and now with the Mal Meninga Cup squad.

It is every Queenslander’s dream to be selected for the Queensland team. Getting selected means I am getting close to where I want my game to go, which is to play Origin and NRL.

My maroons role model is Tino Fa’asuamaleaui. Big Tino as lock, definitely.”

Suzuki Brisbane Tigers Hastings Deering Colts Premiership coach Mark Gliddon said Mikael has been given a fantastic opportunity in the Queensland U18 squad.

“Mikeal was the captain and arguably the best player in our U18 Mal Meninga Cup squad.

“When it comes to our Colts team, he will train with us but will have to continue to work really hard to get a spot.

There are a couple areas of his game that he needs to improve on but for the moment it is a fantastic achievement and I hope he goes really well.”

Every QRL statewide competition club has representation, with all selected players set to benefit from their exposure to a quality coaching team led by head coach Nathan Cross and assistant John Dixon.

Players will also work closely with a number of FOGS, including Matt Gillett, Darius Boyd, Gavin Cooper and Matt Ballin, during the camp.

Round 3 of the Hastings Deering Colts competition will see the Townsville Blackhawks in search of consistency when they come up against the Brisbane Tigers.

Our Tigers are close to the form team of the competition with two wins.

In our Round 2 win over the Burleigh Bears,  the Tigers took the lead at half-time by 10 and then never gave it back, winning 40 to 26.

On the back of 52 per cent of the ball, our Tigers were able to apply pressure to the Bears and never let their foot up. It all ended with seven tries.

Lachlan West was a big part of that with one line break and 164 metres of turf won, Braydon Seu-Easthorpe made 29 tackles and Bailey Black kicked six goals and scored a try.
