Tigers Claim Top Spot with Statement Win at Davies Park

Full Time: Brisbane Tigers 18 def. Souths Logan Magpies 14
Venue: Davies Park
Round 4, BMD Premiership

The Brisbane Tigers are officially the new ladder leaders in the BMD Premiership after a hard-fought 18–14 win over the previously unbeaten Souths Logan Magpies at Davies Park on Sunday.

In a clash between the competition’s top two teams, the Tigers showed composure, discipline, and genuine belief to grind out their fourth straight victory — and leapfrog the Magpies into first place on the ladder.

Winger Evelyn Roberts set the tone early, scoring in just the first minute to give Brisbane the perfect start. But the home side hit back with three tries to take a 14–10 lead as both teams traded momentum in a physical first half.

The second half saw the Tigers’ defensive resolve shine through. Roberts crossed again in the 44th minute to level the scores, before Namoe Gesa powered over in the 63rd minute for the go-ahead try. While conversions proved tricky in the breezy conditions, Brisbane’s defensive wall stood tall in the final stages to shut down a desperate Magpies outfit.

The win not only preserves the Tigers’ unbeaten record — now 4 wins from 4 games — but also sends a clear message to the rest of the competition.
