Hastings Deering Colts

Round 10: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Ipswich Jets
Match Kick off:
1.00pm
Date:
Saturday, 24th June 2023
Location:
North Ipswich Reserve, Ipswich

Our third-placed Colts take on the fourteenth-placed Jets away at North Ipswich Reserve, Ipswich, looking to return to the winner’s circle after a 1-point defeat to the Sunshine Coast Falcons last weekend.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Premiership coach Mark Gliddon:

“We lost against the Sunshine Coast Falcons last weekend, and they deserved to win.

They came here full of enthusiasm and out enthused us and, in the end, they got us by a point.

There is not much we can do about that. We have just got to get our attitude and our energy areas a little better and we will see how we go against the Ipswich Jets this weekend.

Casey Morgan was terrific for us last weekend. He ran close to 160 metres, was up there in the tackle count, carried strongly for the whole game and he played big minutes.

So I am really really pleased with where Casey is at the moment and hopefully he gets an opportunity to play a little bit of Hostplus Cup by the end of the season.

I would like to think we will not be complacent this weekend after a loss last weekend, regardless of where the Jets sit on the ladder.

Their coach was here previously last year as my assistant, actually. I am sure he is going to have them fired up and ready to have a red-hot crack against us.

So we just need to show up on the day and lift our energy and our effort areas and I am fairly confident we can put in a good performance.”

Hostplus Cup

Round 15: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Ipswich Jets
Match Kick off:
3.00pm
Date:
Saturday, 24th June 2023
Location:
North Ipswich Reserve, Ipswich

The intensity of Hostplus Cup will go up an octave this weekend as teams brace for the return leg of XXXX Rivalry Round in Round 15.

Our Suzuki BrisbaneTigers are fifth on the ladder and go into Saturday’s clash with the fifteenth-placed Jets looking to bounce back from strongly-contested defeats against Redcliffe and Sunshine Coast.

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers have won the last three, and four of the last five, games against the Jets and won the last six games between these two sides at North Ipswich Reserve.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup coach Matt Church:

I think the key thing we have to take away from the Falcons game, and I guess also the Redcliffe game, is to not let teams get such a good start on us on the scoreboard.

Having to peg back a 14 to nil deficit before half time proved to be a little bit costly.

But we got back into the game and I am really happy with our resilience.

Thomas Rafter played out of position, and we gave him a bit of a challenge with Justin Olam feeding back into the Falcons team for the weekend.

He is not usually a centre and Thomas did a remarkable job, and defended really well against Justin and minimised his impact on the game. So I was really proud of him.

He has been a great person to have at the club and I am happy for him to get that award on the weekend.

Up against the Jets is always a challenge when you play them over at their home ground, and I know that their coach well.

We are good mates and worked together before, so I know he will have them primed and ready to come up against us this weekend.

For us, it is about focusing on what we are good at. We have been really good through the start of the year by defending for long periods of time, and hopefully we can minimise that by holding onto the ball and completing well.”
