HOSTPLUS CUP

Round 12: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers 20 def CQ Capras 18

Our Hostplus Cup Tigers grabbed their fourth win on the trot in a nail-biter against the CQ Capras at our home den, Totally Workwear Stadium.

Ahead of the match the Tigers and Capras were sitting in third and fourth spot on the ladder respectively, with the stage set for a blockbuster showdown.

In a nervous finish, the Suzuki Brisbane Tigers were leading 20 to 14 when the fast-finishing Capras sent winger Brandon Roberts over in the corner with 30 seconds left on the clock. However, their try was not converted.

Our captain Ryley Jacks said the Tigers had just escaped with the victory, with the game finishing in similar circumstances to last week’s two-point win over the Mackay Cutters.

“Both sides played really well. It felt like a finals game out there to be fair, and we knew it would be.

“It came down to a kick again so that is two weeks in a row. We have to stop doing that to ourselves, it is awful. Looking on is the worst part.

“We got lucky today, but we cannot let things like that happen in a final.

There are too many errors that put us under pressure, especially towards the end of the game, so that is one thing we will touch on tomorrow night at training.”

Running in seven tries to one, the Tigers remain undefeated and retain second place on the Hastings Deering Colts ladder.

Fullback Lachlan West was once again massive for our Tigers. He scored a hat-trick and was constantly involved for his side, proving to be a danger anytime he had the ball in hand.
