HOSTPLUS CUP

Round 13: Redcliffe Dolphins 38 def Suzuki Brisbane Tigers 22

The Dolphins prevailed late in a thrilling game against our Hostplus Cup Tigers worthy of a showdown between two top four sides at Totally Workwear Stadium.

It was all the Dolphins in the first half as they marched to a 20 to nil lead. But the Tigers grinded their way back, eventually closing to within four points going into the last five minutes of the match.

However, the Dolphins held their nerve with tries to Brenton Baira and Sheldon Pitama in the dying stages sealing a 38 to 22 victory.

HASTINGS DEERING COLTS

Round 8: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers 22 def Redcliffe Dolphins 16

Our Colts continued their perfect start to the season with a hard-fought win against competition heavyweights the Dolphins at our home den, Totally Workwear Stadium.

Heading into the clash, both the Tigers and Dolphins were undefeated so far in 2023, with Redcliffe the competition leaders based on for-and-against.

And the two teams showed why they are the Colts heavyweights, engaging in an arm wrestle for the opening 20 minutes before the Dolphins claimed the first points.

The Dolphins held a 12 to 6 halftime lead, but were unable to then stop a Tigers onslaught as second rower Joe Nadenic and impact player Samuela Vakadula scored within four minutes of each other to take the Tigers into the lead.

With 13 minutes left on the clock, barnstorming forward Madison Beckett charged towards the try line to score next to the posts and seal the deal for the Suzuki Brisbane Tigers.

The Tigers now remain the only team undefeated after eight weeks of the Colts competition and leapfrogged the Dolphins to take the outright lead on the ladder.
