HOSTPLUS CUP

Round 6: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers 32 def Western Clydesdales 28

Captain Ryley Jacks celebrated his milestone 100th Queensland Cup game with a win on Sunday afternoon at Totally Workwear Stadium, but it did not come easy thanks to a defiant Western Clydesdales.

Both teams scored six tries apiece, but Tigers’ hooker Tristan Hope had a better day with the boot, converting four tries to the Clydesdales’ two.

It was the Hostplus Cup Suzuki Brisbane Tigers‘ fourth win on the trot, and it was a special one for Ryley Jacks to earn in his 100th Cup game.

“It was a special win for me. This club means a lot. This is where I played when I was six. It is special.

“We made it really hard for ourselves today. In this competition, you just have to find a way so really happy with the win today.

“Moving forward, we just have to keep improving and as long as we are doing the right things at the back end of the year, that is when it counts.

“There were dumb penalties, dumb errors and that is on us. So, as cliché as it is, if we clear them up, we can go on with wins and not make it so hard for ourselves in the end.

“I like where we are at (on the ladder), just cruising. We are happy with where we are sitting and we know what we can do.

“It only matters at the end of the year. We will keep building and flying under the radar.”

– Ryley Jacks

A review from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup coach Matt Church:

I thought we were really dominant for the first 25 minutes, and then we let the Clydesdales back into the game.

I am frustrated that I know that we have better performances ahead of us, but the positive is that we are still winning.

Charlie Murray was a deserved winner of the MacDonald Family Anzac Man-of-the-Match Medal.

He works hard for us week in and week out, he is one of those guys you tend to not notice his great performances because he is at such a high standard each week and you get used to that.

I thought Dredin Sorensen coming off the wing had some very good carries and got us going forward with some momentum

BMD PREMIERSHIP

Round 6: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers 16 def CQ Capras 8

Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ winger Keisha-Leigh Coolwell scored a hat-trick in an important win over the Central Queensland Capras away at Emu Park.

A review from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ BMD Premiership coach Adrian Vowles:

“I was very proud of the players and their performance against the CQ Capras.

We talked about our defence being the thing that would win us the game and that proved true.

We turned up for each other for the whole game and that was awesome to see.

Keisha-Leigh Coolwell with three tries and Patricia Wani with some massive hits were outstanding for us.

We lost Tayla Eldridge in the first half with injury and all players stepped up to fill the void.

In a big day of travel it was a great win to come away with, and now leaves the door slightly ajar for us to sneak into the semi-finals.”

HASTINGS DEERING CUP

Round 1: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers 44 def Western Clydesdales 16

A review from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Cup coach Mark Gliddon:

“I am pleased that we got the choccies. We were not great but we were okay, and the Clydesdales played a lot better than I thought they would judging by previous years.

They played with purpose and probably upset us for a little bit.

We have a lot to work on. But the most pleasing aspect is that we have a goal to keep the opposition from scoring 16 points or under, and we were able to do that today.

Brock Ashton was really good for us today. He has been in our squad for three years now, and had a really good off-season.

I thought he, along with Bailey Black, who has come down from Mackay Cutters, were really good today.”
