Hastings Deering Colts

Round 3: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Townsville Blackhawks
Match Kick off:
12:00pm
Date:
Sunday, 7th May 2023
Location:
Totally Workwear Stadium, Langlands Park

Round 3 of the Hastings Deering Colts competition will see the Townsville Blackhawks in search of consistency when they come up against the Brisbane Tigers.

Our Tigers are close to the form team of the competition with two wins.

In our Round 2 win over the Burleigh Bears,  the Tigers took the lead at half-time by 10 and then never gave it back, winning 40 to 26.

On the back of 52 per cent of the ball, our Tigers were able to apply pressure to the Bears and never let their foot up. It all ended with seven tries.

Lachlan West was a big part of that with one line break and 164 metres of turf won, Braydon Seu-Easthorpe made 29 tackles and Bailey Black kicked six goals and scored a try.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Premiership coach Mark Gliddon:

“We are looking forward to the Blackhawks this weekend, as they are the premiers from last year and have some wonderful players. It should be a cracking game of footy.”

We have a couple injury concerns from the game, and we need to pick our defence up a little. Our one-on-ones were a little disappointing on the weekend and we leaked 26 points.

We also need to look at our discipline, in particular when the opposition is coming out of their own end and making sure we do not give them easy outs.”

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup coach Matt Church:

“I thought we did not complete as well as we would have liked last week against Burleigh and we did not push enough in support for our teammates on the weekend.

To a degree, I think we are flying under the radar at this point in the season. We are a team that is going to build throughout the season and start performing our best towards the end of the year.

In any competition, it is not about how you start but how you finish.

Coming up against Townsville, they have had a mixed bag of results and a young group of (North Queensland) Cowboys players. But it will click for them at some point so we definitely need to be on our game.

Youngness breeds excitement so hopefully we can capitalise as the more experienced side.”
