A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Premiership coach Mark Gliddon:

During the bye round we had the opportunity to train against the Queensland Maroons’ women’s side at CBUS Stadium on the Gold Coast. It was a really good session and the boys enjoyed themselves.

Our ball control and our attention to detail are what we now need to improve on. I thought our completions were a little down against Norths in our last game.

If we can get that right, it would go a long way towards us winning the game.

The boys always look forward to when we go away, and the Cutters have been going really well. They had a little hiccup last week but prior to that they were undefeated.

We are looking forward to the challenge.”

Hostplus Cup

Round 11: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Mackay Cutters
Match Kick off:
6.00pm
Date:
Saturday, 27th May 2023
Location:
BB Print Stadium, Mackay

Our Hostplus Cup Tigers are fourth on the ladder and go into Saturday’s clash with last-placed Cutters with plenty of form on their side.

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers have won seven of the last eight games against the Cutters, including two of the last three in away in Mackay.

Mackay have lost their last 12 games, which is their worst ever losing run. They did go 14 games without a win in 2015/16, but that stretch included one draw.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup coach Matt Church:

“For the bye round we kept sharp by getting away from Langlands Park basically just to refresh.

It has been a good start to the year but everyone enjoyed some time away, and we have come back revitalised.

Looking ahead to this weekend, it is always good when you get an overnight stay for an away match because the boys get to spend a bit of time together after the game.

That is something that is hard to do with the Melbourne guys because we do not often get that, so we are looking forward to that.

We are also looking forward to building on our performance against Norths Devils.

I thought we were really good for 73 minutes of the game, defending well against Norths. But if we get ourselves in that situation again, we want to hold our opposition to zero and to not let them get any points in.

We have also probably missed some opportunities in attack. So we want to just continue to build on getting better as a unit.”
