A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Premiership coach Mark Gliddon:

“It is always pleasing after a win, and I thought the Clydesdales were not too bad and they will win some games this year.

All in all, I think the boys were pretty pleased with the first round win but we are not getting ahead of ourselves.

We are looking forward to playing Burleigh, at Burleigh. It is an earlier start for us, so mentally we need to be quite strong this week.

Barring injuries, things will not change too much for us. What I have noticed about Burleigh is they are a big side, so that may change a little bit the way we attack.

My main focus will be on patience. We created some opportunities against the Clydesdales but the last pass went to ground usually on plays two or three. So we need to be smarter than that, and more patient.”

BMD Premiership

Round 7: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Burleigh Bears
Match Kick off:
12:00pm
Date:
Sunday, 30th April 2023
Location:

BMD Premiership Round 7 will close out on Sunday with the Burleigh Bears and Brisbane Tigers clashing in the final regular game of the season.

Our Tigers are travelling to Burleigh after a 16 to 8 away win against the CQ Capras and they will be looking to finish the season with two wins.

Keisha-Leigh Coolwell scored three tries for the Tigers, and at 4-all at half-time, it was the Tigers’ strong second half effort that closed out the game when it mattered.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ BMD Premiership coach Adrian Vowles:

“This could be our last game for season 2023, or, if the gods are in our favour and results go our way, we could sneak into the semi finals.

We will know our fate on Saturday before our game but either way we want to finish on a high.

Burleigh are always tough opposition but I will be imploring our team to go on from last weekend’s win against the CQ Capras and make it two-in-a-row.

Defence was the key last week and it will be the same this week and, with some tweaks to our attack, I believe we can upset the Bears.

No matter what the result, I am very proud as coach of how far our team has come in Season 2023.”

– Adrian Vowles

Hostplus Cup

Round 7: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Burleigh Bears
Match Kick off: 2:10pm
Date: Sunday, 30th April 2023
Location: UAA Park, Gold Coast

The feature game on Qplus.tv this week will see Burleigh Bears and Suzuki Brisbane Tigers, both in the top four, come up against each other at UAA Park on the Gold Coast.

Our Tigers have won their last four Hostplus Cup games, including a close-fought 32 to 28 win against the Western Clydesdales in ANZAC Round.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup coach Matt Church:

“We are all looking forward to the challenge against Burleigh, as we recently have taken on some teams lower than us on the ladder.

It is a tough road trip going down to Burleigh, but for this group it comes at a good time to see where we are at.

There are still a lot of things we are working on, which are mostly relationship things and understanding playing beside each other.

I thought Dredin Sorensen was great last week playing out of position. He is usually a centre who played wing, and he really got us going forward in that second half and took some really tough carries.

Charlie Murray has been a consistent performer for us, and got the MacDonald Family ANZAC Man-of-the-Match Medal last week against the Clydesdales.

He, along with Tristan Hope, has been really good through the middle for us.”
