Match Previews: April 22-23 (ANZAC ROUND)

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers are excited to host the Western Clydesdales’ Hostplus Cup and Hastings Deering Colts clashes this Sunday in our newly redeveloped Totally Workwear Stadium, Langlands Park.

Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup captain Ryley Jacks is gearing up to play his 100th Queensland Cup game. Jacks, who made his Cup debut with the Brisbane Tigers back in 2014 and was a Tigers junior, has also played with the Sunshine Coast Falcons, Burleigh Bears and Tweed Seagulls during his Cup career and with Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans in the NRL.

Totally Workwear Stadium will also host Sunday’s Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup 2023 Grand Final between the Redcliffe Dolphins and Townsville Blackhawks. The two teams dominated throughout their short season and won through to the grand final in convincing fashion in last week’s semi-finals. Kick-off is at 1:00pm.

Elsewhere, our BMD Premiership Tigers travel up to Rockhampton on Saturday for their must-win clash against the CQ Capras to keep their finals aspirations alive.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ BMD Premiership coach Adrian Vowles:

“Our challenge this weekend is to get back to playing the footy we know we can play, and by doing that we will get a positive result.

We will be going back to basics this weekend, getting our defence in-check and with that our attack will follow.

We have been below our best in the last couple of games. But the belief I have in our team has not wavered, and I know, with the players we have, we can do the job against the CQ Capras.

I also think the trip away will help our team to gel, which will in turn allow us to play our best footy again.”

Hostplus Cup

Round 6: Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Western Clydesdales
Match Kick off: 3:00pm
Date: Sunday, 23rd April 2023
Location: Totally Workwear Stadium, Brisbane

Round 6 of the Hostplus Cup will be a significant weekend for teams across the competition, as we commemorate ANZAC Day.

Our Hostplus Tigers have won their last three games, including a 54-20 win over Ipswich Jets – the most points they have ever scored against Ipswich.

Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ captain Ryley Jacks will celebrate a momentous occasion this weekend, as he notches up his 100th Cup game.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup coach Matt Church:

First and foremost, it is our captain’s hundredth game in Queensland Cup.

100 games at this level is quite an achievement. We are strong in our mentality, ‘if it is important to one of us, it is important to all of us’, so it is certainly something we want to honour by putting in a good performance for Ryley.

The Clydesdales will be a challenge as they got their first win of the season last weekend, so they will be brimming with confidence. We cannot afford to take them lightly.

This is probably the first adversity the group has faced in terms of injuries this season picked up in the Cutters game, but like most teams we have a ‘next man up’ mentality.

We are very lucky we have a strong roster, and the guys coming in have all played competently at this level before.

I am sure they have been dying for their opportunity, and our playing group’s ‘’Be ready, stay ready’ mentality means they are ready to take it with two hands.”

We are aiming for a good performance and win against the Clydesdales, who are an up-and-coming team.
