Hostplus Cup

Finals Week 3 (Preliminary Final): Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v CQ Capras
Match Kick off:
2.05pm
Date:
Sunday, 10th September 2023
Location:
Totally Workwear Stadium, Langlands Park

The 2023 Hostplus Cup grand finalists will be decided this weekend, as Burleigh Bears and Wynnum Manly Seagulls go head-to-head and Brisbane Tigers host to the Central Queensland Capras.

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers last made the big dance in 2018 when they went down to Redcliffe, while Central Queensland are hopeful of their first premiership decider in their 28-year history.

In Finals Week 1, our Hostplus Cup Tigers defeated Souths Logan Magpies away at Logan Metro Sports Complex in a victory that was only sealed when Tigers winger Max Lehmann scoring an 80-metre intercept try in the 80th minute.

Our Tigers have won their last four games on the trot, and have won the last three matches against the CQ Capras including a nail-biting 2-point win at home against the Capras back in Round 13.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hostplus Cup coach Matt Church:

“We have had a good week off. We got a bit of work into them early in the week and then gave them the rest of the week off.

We got together as a group on Friday and then let them go and get refreshed. We gave them the weekend to reconnect with family and friends, especially with Father’s Day.

Coming back this week, I am expecting a very physical, 80-minute contest against the Capras.

What Lionel Harbin has been able to do with the Capras has enhanced their DNA. They are a lot harder to handle under his watch and he has done a fantastic job.

We know we are up for one hell of a contest.

Our main focus is knowing what our strengths are, staying with those as long as possible and building pressure on the opposition.”

Hastings Deering Colts

Finals Week 3 (Preliminary Final): Suzuki Brisbane Tigers v Redcliffe Dolphins
Match Kick off:
12.05pm
Date:
Sunday, 10th September 2023
Location:
Totally Workwear Stadium, Langlands Park

The penultimate week of Hastings Deering Colts is here and it is sudden death for the four remaining teams, with only two able to progress to next week’s grand final.

Our Colts will take on traditional finals foes, Redcliffe Dolphins, at our home ground at Langlands Park.

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers defeated the Dolphins by six points earlier in the year in what a very closely-contest match.

In Finals Week 1, our Colts defeated the Townsville Blackhawks 36 points to 12 in commanding display at Logan Metro Sports Complex.

Tigers’ hooker Jackson Chang came off the bench against the Blackhawks and made three line breaks and scored a vital try just after half-time, then scored again five minutes later to seal the deal.

Suzuki Brisbane Tigers forward Casey Morgan has been great across the 2023 season, and again in Finals Week 1 with 188 run metres.

The Dolphins arrive at the Preliminary Final after having come around the long way by beating Souths Logan Magpies and Burleigh Bears to meet our Tigers in Finals Week 3.

A preview from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Premiership coach Mark Gliddon:

The Dolphins are a good side. But it is a prelim final, no there is such thing as not a good side.

“They have won two finals away from home already so coming here is not going to worry them and they will want to play in a grand final at home.

“I think the week off is great for us, we needed it but now it is time to play again.”
