Volunteer Spotlight: Jodie Green

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering.

The week-long event recognises the vital support that the millions of volunteers in our country provide to their communities and encourages people to consider volunteering.

In support of National Volunteer Week, the Brisbane Tigers are highlighting three incredible volunteers who help keep our club running – from Easts Juniors all the way to our Hostplus Cup Tigers.

Jodie Green – Treasurer of Easts Juniors

Jodie has been a vital volunteer across many roles for Easts Juniors, supporting her sons along with hundreds of other children as they learn the game of rugby league.

“My current role at Easts Juniors is the Treasurer, but I am also the Manager of our Under 14s Division 1 and Division 3 teams.

I started volunteering as the club managing the Under 6s when my eldest son joined. After that I was the Under 9s Manager and I have been involved as a volunteer all up for six years now.

I think that sport provides something special for children as they are growing up.

At Easts Juniors, children and our players come from all over the place and different schools. It is great that our children get to make football friends and relationships outside their regular circles.

For me, the best aspects of volunteering are being able to give experiences to my sons outside of just being their parent.

Our volunteers help their teams get to the games and flourish every week, and allow boys and girls the opportunity to play the sport they love.

The reason I became Treasurer was to help keep the club going for years to come, and that families like mine, who are obsessed with rugby league, will have access to junior teams long-term.

Volunteering keeps the Easts Juniors’ wheels turning and helps our club become bigger and better as the years go on. It is also rewarding for your children, yourself and the peers around you.

At the end of the day it is fulfilling to volunteer as you are able to encourage and nurture their interest in a sport they love. It is good to see the numbers we are getting and that we are helping keep rugby league alive.

Thank you to all the players and their families that choose to come to our club. Without you we would not have a passionate junior club for so many children to enjoy and grow through.”

Thank you to all our volunteers, staff and fans. Whether you have been to a single game day or been involved with our club for years, your support is appreciated and vital to the longevity of our now 90-year-old club.
