Jacks to join Tigers full-time

Eastern Suburbs junior and Canadian international Ryley Jacks will join the Suzuki Brisbane Tigers for the 2022 season.

Tiger #1231, Jacks is a familiar icon at Langlands Park with his Intrust Super Cup debut coming with the Tigers back in 2014, where he debuted alongside the likes of Cody Walker, Tim Glasby, Hymel Hunt and Felise Kaufusi.

The 29-year old, having been contracted to feeder club Melbourne Storm from 2020-21 has been a regular with the Tigers. He managed to play 7 games across 2020 (1) and 2021 (6) for the Tigers respectively before COVID restrictions prevented NRL contracted players from playing.

Jacks boasts a resume of 48 NRL games with the Melbourne Storm (35) and the Gold Coast Titans (13), as well as 2 international games for the Canada Wolverines.

Speaking of his full-time return to the Tigers, Jacks said “one of the reasons I came back to Easts was because it’s where I started my football journey when I was a 6-year old at Scott Park and then all the way through to Colts.

“There has always been that history there for me, along with my Grandad Donald Baker (Tiger #356) playing here in the early 50’s and my dad Terry being the skills coach here when they last won in 1991.

“I’m really looking forward to the season but we have a lot of work to put in before then, which starts next week”, said Jacks.

Known for his ‘Cooper Cronk’ like qualities, Brisbane Tigers Head Coach Jon Buchanan said the 29-year old’s experience and calm head were exactly what the Tigers need.

“He’s out of an NRL system and back to us full-time, which is going to be a massive benefit to us having him week in week out.

“I’ve had two catch ups with him already and it has been really good… he’s hungry as and has some good ideas”, he added.

Brisbane Tigers CEO Brian Torpy added, “it is always great to see our juniors pulling on our first-grade jersey.

“Ryley has been involved in very good systems with the Storm, Titans and the Roosters and I have no doubt he will bring a lot of what he has learned training and playing in those systems to the Tigers.

“His professionalism, experience and ability will be invaluable for our playing group”, Torpy added.

Welcome back to the Tigers family Jacksy!
