Redcliffe have taken out back-to-back Struddy’s Sports Brisbane Rugby League pre-season titles with a committed defensive effort earning a 36-8 victory over Easts.

The Dolphins were undefeated heading into the decider and clicked into gear in the second half following an error-riddled first forty.

Ahead 12-4 at the break, the halftime message from Redcliffe coach Daniel Green was ”play straight’

“We tried to play on their edges but we were getting the results by playing quick on them. Their bigger guys were tiring, and we wanted our nine to get out of dummy half,” he explained.

“And the guys reacted to the game plan and got rewards.”

An intercept try to Kyle van Klaveran and supporting run from forward Tyson Cleal saw the Dolphins stretch their lead to 24-4 early in the second half.

Easts mustered a mini-revival when Foisa Peni crashed over with twenty minutes to play, but it was quickly snuffed out when Ash Harawira scored from a short ball.

Dolphins’ halfback Tyson Gamble claimed official Man of the Match honours but Green paid tribute to Logan Harris, who was a late inclusion at hooker for Hayden Hansen.

“It was his first game for the year and he played the full 80 minutes which was a fantastic effort.”

A fit and healthy roster at the club means Green will implement a rotation policy, giving players from his extended squad a game at least every three weeks.

“There’s two spots on the bench we’re going to use, there’d be five or six guys missing out I’ll rotate through. You don’t want blokes not getting a reward for their work in the pre-season,” he said.

Redcliffe meet defending premiers Ipswich at Southpine Sports Complex in round one.

It took a late try to elusive fullback Ono So’Oialo for the Jets to break a 30-all deadlock with Valleys Diehards in the third v fourth playoff.
