Tigers retire number 1 jersey for this weekend in memory of Michael Purcell

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers have today announced the retirement of the number 1 jersey for this weekend’s Hostplus Cup clash against the Sunshine Coast Falcons, in memory of Tiger #1344 Michael Purcell.

Across 82 games for the Brisbane Tigers and Ipswich Jets, the talented fullback posted 316 points from 68 tries and 22 goals to deservedly earn the reputation as one of the Cup’s premier attacking strike weapons.

The Tigers will also honour Purcey by sporting black armbands and by holding a minute silence prior to this Saturday’s Round 18 Hostplus Cup clash against the Falcons at 3:00pm.

Tigers Head Coach Jon Buchanan commented, “We will always remember his infectious smile around the club.

“He was such a likeable bloke. He touched a heap of us, not just through his rugby league ability but more so off the field.”
