Devastating injury news for fullback Purcell

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers have today confirmed that star fullback Michael Purcell (Purcey) suffered an ACL injury during their Round 10 loss to the Sunshine Coast Falcons on 13th June.

It would be the cherry on top of a nightmare injury riddled season for the Tigers.

Head Coach Jon Buchanan said “he had been playing exceptionally well for us, we’ll miss him out there that’s for sure”.

Known for his exceptional speed, Kangaroo catcher Purcey lasted 60 minutes on the field before going off with a knee injury.

He is booked in for reconstructive surgery in the coming weeks, which unfortunately cuts his 2021 Intrust Super Cup season short after playing a total of eight matches.

The injury is a devasting end to his 2021 season, however Purcell remained upbeat and positive.

“Wishing I was training and playing with the boys, but for now I am focused on getting fixed and hooking into rehab to be better for 2022,” said Purcell.

We wish Purcey all the very best in his recovery and we can’t wait to see him back out there!
