WALTERS INSPIRES TIGERS WIN OVER CAPRAS

By QRL Media

The Easts Tigers stormed out of the blocks against the CQ Capras and were never headed on their way to recording a 30-10 win at Gladstone on Saturday night.

While the try scoring started early for the visitors, with Jeremy Hawkins crossing over in the sixth minute to get the ball rolling for his team – it was an even opening 10 minutes to the game with the Capras responding in fashion soon after the Tigers fullback had posted his four-pointer.

CQ winger Junior Kirisome got his side on the board to the delight of the large crowd of local who had come to enjoy the match – but with the conversion kick waved away – it was Easts with the 6-4 advantage.

However – from that play on it was all the Tigers for the rest of the first half – with the Brisbane side skipping out to a 24-4 halftime lead.

Tries came from Billy Walters, Brentt Warr and Guy Hamilton in his Intrust Super debut, with the former Bulldogs NYC captain coming in at halfback for Daniel Foster.

The Capras started the second half in a positive fashion when centre Brandon Manase got the ball down over the line to narrow the lead of the Tigers to 24-10 with 36 minutes still left in the game for them to amount a comeback.

However, the rest of the half was a tight affair, with neither side able to break through the defence of the other until Tigers centre Michael Kai was able to post another try for his side with just over 10 minutes remaining in the match.

Capras forward Peter Gallen told the Gladstone Observer that his side was ‘flat’ for this game, which was disappointing considering the effort they had put in the week prior to topple the defending champions Ipswich.

Walters had a perfect night with the boot – converting all five tries including his own for a personal tally of 14 points from the match.

Next weekend, the Capras will be back a Browne Park against the Sunshine Coast Falcons – while Easts will host the Wynnum Manly Seagulls in the Channel 9 TV game.
