The Central West and parts of the Northern Goldfields have been pretty hard hit but no more worse that Longreach and Ilfracombe.
The lack of feed for livestock has badly affected the shearing industry near Longreach, where as a result many shearers are closing their businesses or relocating elsewhere. A lot of these people have families thus School attendance has dropped and trading has been affected by people leaving town thus Businesses have closed down.Drought-Tahna-paddock-2
The town of Ilfracombe (Approx 25km East of Longreach) had a horror wet season; The dam has dried up forcing the town’s water to be carted in, restrictions mean that the Footy oval can’t be watered, thus the Scorpions have to Train in Longreach. Livestock numbers are scarce as the land is Barron. We ourselves are running an appeal “4LG’s Break From the Drought” we’re listeners can nominate those affected by the drought for a getaway trip to Brisbane + flights and accommodation
