Stretton State College partners with the Tigers

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers are delighted to announce a partnership with Stretton State College (SC) for the next three years until December 31, 2024.

The State school caters for 3,400 primary and high school students and currently runs a highly successful Rugby League Academy Program which aims to provide students with the opportunity to achieve academic success while developing the essential skills of the game, with pathways to compete in Rugby League competitions across South East Queensland.

The partnership which commences on January 1, 2022 will include but not limited to:
• An annual sponsorship from Suzuki Brisbane Tigers towards the Stretton SC Rugby League Academy;
• Suzuki Brisbane Tigers Coaching Staff to assist with the delivery of education sessions and host the Stretton SC Head of Rugby League Program during the preseason period; and
• Commitment for Stretton State College to host competition games at Langlands Park in the 2023-2024 years.

Brisbane Tigers CEO, Brian Torpy said “We are delighted to have partnered with Stretton State College and look forward to assisting the College in developing and growing rugby league”.

“It is pleasing to see the College offering their rugby league program to both their male and female students, and we are looking forward in assisting the College in delivering their programs”, he added.

Stretton SC Rugby League Academy Head Coach, Jayden Best is thrilled to come on board with the Tigers.

“Despite only being a new Rugby League Academy, our boys’ and girls’ teams have already made a statement by qualifying and competing in the top tier competitions in South East QLD.

“We are really excited to be able to provide pathways and opportunities for our students to play for and be exposed to a club as prestigious as the Tigers.

“Our students will be exposed to some of the best facilities in Brisbane as well as giving our Stretton coaching staff the chance to learn from highly experienced and successful coaches such as Jon Buchanan and Mark Gliddon.

“The Tigers put a lot of emphasis into off field education and player welfare which aligns perfectly with our core values that help us mould the next generation of young people at Stretton SC.

“This partnership will provide our players with the opportunity to play for the Tigers through the ranks of Cyril Connell Challenge, Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup, Harvey Norman Under 19’s, Hastings Deering Colts, QRLW and the Hostplus Cup.

Stretton SC students Kayliss Brown and Connor Richards are two players who are currently in the Tigers system within the 2022 Cyril Connell Challenge Squad.

“We’re excited to see the young people in our Program continue building their skills both on and off the field and grow as individuals and sportspeople through this partnership”, he added.

Stretton SC embodies school values of recognising that young people need to be happy, healthy and confident with a strong sense of belonging.

They envision to develop caring hearts, curious minds and flourishing future as they embed a culture of Positive Education.
